Are you over the age of 18, possess a valid NJ driver’s license and satisfactory driving record? If so, the BHVRS can always use new volunteers to ride with us!
We are looking for people in the community who are enthusiastic, willing to learn, and looking to make a difference for their neighbors!
WE WILL TRAIN YOU. Medical experience is not required to join the BHVRS! As a new Associate member, you will be riding with an experienced crew, to learn and assist when needed. You will never be alone or put in a position to make decisions you are not trained to make.
We will certify you in CPR and provide you with basic first aid education. As time goes on, we will teach you how to drive our ambulances and ultimately offer you the opportunity to become certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
It’s easy to become a member. Contact us and come in for an informal meeting with our membership team. We’ll answer all of your questions, including scheduling options and benefits of membership.
Scheduling Our Riding Members – Expectations
- Ability to preferably ride on the same day each week, with flexible hours available between 7AM-7PM or 7PM-7AM.
- Ability to ride two 6-hour weekend shifts each month, anytime between 7AM Saturday morning, and 7PM Sunday night. These do not need to be consecutive!
While you are on-call, you are responsible for “rig check” at the building at the beginning of your shift. During this time, you’ll work with your crew to ensure both of our duty ambulances are ready for the day, and also complete some training. (This usually lasts about one hour.) Then, you are free to respond to the squad building from home (if you are a Berkeley Heights resident) when an emergency call comes in.
