BHVRS Hosts Community CPR Class!
Last Thursday, the squad hosted two 1 hour CPR classes at the Squad building. The classes were well attended and were open to those who live or work in Berkeley Heights. The course was taught by American Red Cross instructor and BHVRS Vehicle Lt Bill Schulz. Participants learned the basics of hands-only CPR, use of the AED defibrillator, and how to assist choking victims. We’re always looking for new members – EMTs, non-EMT Auxiliary Members, and Cadets (16-18yearolds).

Cadet Trip to Liberty Science Center
Our cadets traveled to Liberty Science Center to see a live neurosurgery! The cadets were able to interact with the surgeon and ask him questions during the procedure. Most of our cadets have an interest in the medical field. By joining the squad they get experience in medicine, but we also like to supplement this in anyway that we can! This is the second year in a row that the cadets have gone to Liberty Science Center to observe a surgery. If you or someone you know is interested in joining the cadet program, check out our cadet tab to get more information about applying!

N-95 Fit Testing
All squad members recently underwent fit testing for N95 respirators, which are face masks that can help prevent the spread of germs. These respirators specifically protect against the flu, measles, whooping cough and tuberculosis, along with many other diseases. All Squad members must ensure they are wearing the right size mask once a year, so thank you to the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad for helping us check them!

Free CPR/AED class April 23rd, 7pm
Sign up for our one hour CPR/AED class being hosted by the Berkeley Heights Rescue Squad on Thursday, April 23rd at 7pm. Although this will not be a certification class, it will increase your knowledge of what to do in an emergency situation. This class will teach you how to respond to cardiac emergencies in adults and children including the use of an AED.The class will be held at Squad Headquarters.

EMS Council of New Jersey Meeting
The BHVRS recently hosted a monthly meeting of the EMS Council of New Jersey (formerly known as the New Jersey State First Aid Council). The EMS Council of New Jersey helps build relationships between volunteer EMS agencies throughout the state and encourages progress in EMS, on both the local and legislative levels. We are very proud to have our Squad’s own Howie Meyer serving as President!
