Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad (BHVRS) “Why I Ride” series features BHVRS members and why they chose to become an EMT and volunteer.
Why did you join the BHVRS?
I joined the squad as a Cadet when I was in high school because my best friend encouraged me to give it a try. I fell in love with it right away. I love the patient interaction, the medical side, and my crew. The people on the squad are the most caring and kind people in the whole world, and we are a big family.
What would you say to someone who wants to join the BHVRS but is nervous?
Our community really needs volunteers and if you are unsure just give it a try. I was really nervous at first, but you would be surprised how you can help people when they need it.
What has been your most memorable moment?
My very first call. It was not a super serious call, but I will never forget how thankful the patient was. I remember watching my crew in awe as they knew exactly what to say to calm the patient and help her through the emergency. It made me realize that I wanted to stay on the squad and be a part of helping people. It was also very memorable when our crew delivered a baby. That was an experience that the crew will never forget.
